Pony hat #3

This is my third crochet attempt. I am teaching myself to crochet as I make these hats. I have definitely come to appreciate crochet a lot more. I do knit 90 percent of the time but I am really enjoying this new adventure in yarn with a hook. This is the crown of the hat and next I will be doing the shaping I think. But so far I am very pleased with how it is going. My stitches are becoming more even and relaxed.

Thrift shopping scores

My honey and I like to visit several thrift shops. Like Goodwill, Volunteers of America and any mom and pop thrift shop that we seem to pass by. He looks for musical instruments, exercise equipment and tools. I look for knitting needles, hooks and unique yarn related items. This week I came up with two bobbins that I have no idea what they are used for, a pair of number 10.5s, number 2s, number 3s, one number 1 and a number 5 needle. I pick up the singles because you can always find a mate at another thrift shop or yarn store. My honey says I have too many and I say Never.

I am making four pairs of these for the men folk in the family for Christmas. I am basing the pattern off of Ken by Berrocco. I see some tweeking I need to do. The good thing is one glove/mitten knit in a day. UuuuhhhOOOooo

Also has any one checked out the new Crate&Barrel holiday catalog. It is full of knit and crochet items for the tree, table, and kitchen. It is very cool and I might try to make some of them too. We'll see.
